Dr. Alan Kravitz received his M.D. degree from University of Maryland, and completed his residency in General Surgery in 1988. Since that time he has been in private practice repairing and treating hernias in Rockville, Maryland (MD). He has performed thousands of hernia surgeries, and since 1993 has been voted by his fellow physicians as a “Top Doctor” for Washingtonian Magazine.
Dr. Kravitz has served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. In addition, He serves as Chairman of the Quality Improvement Advisory Committee for Blue Cross Blue Shield in the Washington-Baltimore area, and is a member of the national Physician Leadership Team for Surgical Care Affiliates. He has been certified by the American Board of Surgery since 1989, and is a member of the American Hernia Society.

Dr. Lawrence Starin is a Board Certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1983 and completed a General Surgery Residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital & Medical Center of NYC in 1988. After a one year Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, he opened his private practice in 1989. He is currently the Chief of General Surgery at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD, as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the George Washington University Medical School. Dr. Starin has extensive experience in the repair of abdominal wall hernias. He has consistently been voted a “Top Doctor” by his peers in the Washingtonian Magazine.
Dr. Howard Wilpon received his medical degree and anesthesia training at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He received further subspecialty training in Pediatric and Obstetrical Anesthesia.
Since 1989 he has been practicing anesthesia in Montgomery County, Maryland, and is certified by the American Board of Anesthesia. He is currently the managing partner of First Colonies Anesthesia Associates, which is the largest anesthesia group in the state of Maryland. He also serves as the medical director at the Montgomery Surgery Center.
Kathy Brown, RN, is the Director of Nursing at the Montgomery Surgery Center (MSC) and an key part of the success of AffordableHerniaSurgery.com. She received her nursing degree from American University and has 37 years of nursing experience, including all aspects of the care of the surgical patient. She serves on the Medical Executive Committee at MSC, and is responsible for assembling the terrific team that cares for our patients. Our Surgery Center
All of our hernia repair surgeries are performed at the Montgomery Surgery Center (MSC) in Rockville, Maryland. MSC was established in 1988 and is one of the largest surgery centers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
MSC has always passed the rigorous inspection standards of both Medicare and AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care). This means that our patients receive the finest nursing and surgical care.
The nursing staff at MSC have basic life support (BLS) training as well advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) training. Our anesthesiologists are all certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology and licensed in the state of Maryland.
