A truss is a strap that pushes against the abdominal wall and keeps abdominal contents from protruding through the hernia defect. These trusses are mostly used for inguinal hernias, and many patients find them to be helpful. A truss should not be considered a final treatment for hernias, but it may provide some relief from the symptoms.
Many of our patients have worn these trusses and hernia belts prior to their operation. They usually tell us that they are looking forward to getting rid of the annoying process of “strapping in” every day.
